Why the ‘NEBOSH General Certificate’ is so much more than ‘general’

If you’re undecided about which direction you want to take your health and safety career in, then booking yourself on to achieve your NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (NGC) will offer more than an introduction in to the health and safety industry.

Some people have been led to believe that the NGC is a foundation entry-level certificate but that is not the case. Aside from the NEBOSH Environmental Certificate, other specialist industry certifications such as the NEBOSH Fire Certificate and the NEBOSH Construction Certificate, require you to have completed the NGC before undertaking their add-on industry focused certificate.

The NEBOSH Certificate is recognised as the best qualification to start your career in Health and Safety. Over 120,000 people take the qualification each year. Research of Safety job adverts demonstrates that over 90% of employers expect applicants to hold the NEBOSH General Certificate, as a minimum.

During your NGC course, the dedicated trainer will bring the content and syllabus to life using real-life work scenarios helping you to relate your training to the real world and your job role. It will give you the opportunity to discover and uncover your own personal skill set which can then be practiced in a safe environment under professional instruction.

Studying this course with a group of like-minded people is likely to revive ambition and aspiration too. It provides enough in-depth study for you to gain vocational skills towards your chosen career path and higher-level study. If you successfully complete the NGC, you can progress immediately on to any of the NEBOSH ‘Industry Specific’ Certifications. (If you have any questions on this, please contact us.)

The NGC will give you a clear understanding of the legal requirements for Health and Safety and controlling workplace hazards in a wide range of areas such as:

  • Transport
  • Equipment
  • Fire
  • Electrical
  • Chemical and Biological
  • Physical and Psychological

The training offers a comprehensive range of essential tools from helping you to use an effective management system in the workplace, to covering the process of developing a range of risk assessments and how to positively influence the safety culture to name a few.

As a NEBOSH Certificate qualified employee your company will benefit from your knowledge and skills to meet recognised standards, legislation, codes of practice and the ability to protect people from injury.

The NEBOSH General Certificate can start to make some positive changes to your working life, now and for the future. Needless to say; it is more than just a ‘General Certificate’.
