Supervising First Aid for Mental Health
The Supervising First Aid for Mental Health course is available either at your place of work over 2 days of your choosing or at any of our training venues.
The course will equip you with the necessary skills to understand and recognise signs of mental ill-health, the confidence to support and reassure a person in distress, and the knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to further support.
Who Should Attend
The course is suitable for all individuals within a workplace but is primarily aimed at those who hold a supervisory/managerial level position and who have responsibility for implementing a positive mental health culture and responsibility for First Aid for Mental Health within an organisation.
What will delegates get from the course
On completion of the course, you will receive an FAA Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (Level 3 RQF) accredited certificate.
The course will qualify you as a Supervising First Aider for Mental Health, giving you:
A thorough understanding of mental health and mental illness:
- How to provide advice and support for a person presenting a mental health condition
- How to recognise a range of mental health conditions
- The first aid for the mental health action plan and how to utilise it
- The impact of substance abuse on mental health
- How to implement a positive mental health culture in the workplace
Understanding a range of mental health disorders and the support/therapy provided by healthcare professionals.
The Supervising First Aid for Mental Health Adult (2-day practical RQF 3) Course covers the following subjects:
- What is the first aid for mental health
- Identifying mental health conditions
- Providing advice and starting a conversation
- Drugs and alcohol
- First aid action plan for mental health
- Mental health in the workplace
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Eating disorders
- Personality disorders
- Bipolar disorder
This course runs over 12 hours spread over at least 2 days. Ideally, the course should be run over two consecutive days, but we have the flexibility to accommodate your specific needs if you require, and also providing it is completed within 10 weeks of starting the course and the training sessions last for a minimum of two hours.
Assessment is ongoing by the instructor each day, along with a written assessment at the end of each day and also a practical scenario on the second day.
Upon successful completion of the qualification assessment, Learners will be awarded the Ofqual regulated Level 3 Award in Supervising First Aid for Mental Health (RQF).
This qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training. The learner will need to complete the full course again to re-qualify for a further three years.
A maximum of 16 students can be accommodated on this course and all candidates must be a minimum of 16 years of age to qualify.
